Alan Fearnley was born in Yorkshire in 1942 and after Grammar School attended Batley College of Art. His working life began with a position as a junior in the art department of a large photographic company. Since the early seventies he has established himself as one of the leading artists dealing with transportation scenes.
His oil-on-canvas paintings reflect his keen interest in "transportation." Alan's work includes railroads, ships, and airplanes, but mainly racing cars. He participated in exhibitions of the Royal Society of Marine Artists, was admitted as a full member of the Guild of Aviation Artists in 1975, and was elected the first chairman of the Guild of Railway Artists in 1979 - a role he held for five years.
In recent years Alan Fearnley has been very successful in painting current and historic Grand Prix scenes, which are exhibited each year during the Monaco Grand Prix at the Hotel de Paris and are usually sold very quickly to enthusiasts. His paintings hang, for example, in the offices of Rolls Royce, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and McLaren International. They are exhibited at many race tracks and museums around the world and also decorate the homes of Nigel Mansell, Derek Bell, Sir Jack Brabham, Jackie Stewart and singer/composer Cris Rea. Alan is an artist whose work attracts the attention of collectors around the world. Although his original paintings hang primarily in private collections, they are well known to the public interested in racing through limited edition reproductions. Many racing drivers or classic car fans bring their favorites into their homes and offices in the form of the art prints.
